Meet Our Team

Albert Darakjy

Albert lives in North Idaho with his beautiful wife, Eva, and five wonderful children. He works as a PA in the mental health field of Psychiatry. He is actively involved in his local SSPX parish Holy Name Society. Albert enjoys spending time with his family and hunting wild game in Idaho. As president of Adelante, he directs the operations of the non-profit organization and is a guide for male pilgrims.

Joanna Darakjy

Joanna lives in Boise, Idaho and attends the local SSPX parish. She currently works as an NP for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Services at the regional hospital in Boise. As Vice President Joanna supports and collaborates to further the achievement of the mission of Adelante and is a guide for the female pilgrims.

Rita Goodwin

Based in Northern New York, Rita is an artist, instructor, and entrepreneur with much experience in education. She has spent years supporting behind-the-scenes leadership for youth groups, parish events, and school functions. Currently serving as Guide and Adelante Secretary, Rita helps form young adults into leaders for the Kingship of Christ, with a particular emphasis on helping young women embrace and flourish in their role of true femininity.

Thomas DeBartolo

Thomas is an Adelante Alumnus living in the beautiful Washington State. He works as a travel firefighter and project manager, and also serves in the Air National Guard. As a Sergeant in charge of the Honor Guard team in the Air National Guard, he leads the provision of our nation's highest honors at military funerals. As an avid outdoors enthusiast, Thomas has a goal to summit every mountain peak in the lower 48 States. He is active in his SSPX parish, where he leads the Holy Name Society, the altar serving program, and the young adults group. As a junior guide for Adelante, Thomas assists Albert with program structure and leading male candidates.

Gerard Gilmor

A Colorado native of St. Isidore parish and 2023 Adelante Alumnus, Gerard is the Support Crew Chief for the expedition. With a background as a heavy equipment mechanic and youth group president, he now subcontracts on a farm near the Kansas border. There, Gerard focuses on regenerative agriculture, developing drought-resistant techniques to revitalize rural communities by emphasizing soil health and food quality.

Lauren Haynos

Lauren, originally from Syracuse, New York, now lives in St. Mary’s, Kansas, with her husband and two children. A 2023 Adelante alumna, Lauren balances her role as wife and mother with that of Adelante Treasurer, all the while teaching private piano lessons and helping manage a local restaurant. With whatever spare time she has, you can find her playing instruments, singing or painting.

Auxiliary Support

Tom Petersen

Tom lives near Syracuse, New York with his wife and family where he is a firefighter and entrepreneur, with a deep commitment to the Adelante mission. A former support crew lead and guide, he continues to champion the apostolate from afar, inspiring young men toward greatness and the pursuit of virtue.

Olivia Tamashiro

Olivia, based in southern Oregon, is an RN and salon owner. After attending Adelante in 2021, Olivia joined the leadership team. Though her current schedule keeps her from the trail, she remains a committed remote mentor, guiding others with her diverse professional experience.

Eric VanZant

Eric is a 2021 Adelante alumnus living in Kentucky with his wife. Amidst running his construction business, he served as guide and mentor for a few years, cultivating growth in others.

Chaplains

SSPX Involvement

Fr. Gardner has been chaplain on the Wilderness Expedition and the Mission Challenge, and assists with the preparation for the program each year. He is currently chaplain both for St. Mary's College and Acies, the young adult group in St. Mary's, KS. Fr. Gardner enjoys the varying elements of  this trip: the Kingship of Christ, as well as challenges in the outdoors - especially the beautiful country, good literature and discussions, and friendships with people who love God, souls, and have a passion to spread that love.

Fr. Thomas Buschmann

Fr. Buschmann is from Woodbury, Minnesota and was ordained on June 22, 2018, by Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais SSPX in Dillwyn, Virginia.  He was first assigned to the retreat center in Los Gatos and then to Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls, ID (2019-2025).
